Heating oil has always been known for its sulfur content. As sulfur presence in oil has come down over the last two decades, and emissions of oil burners going lower than before, oil continues to stay as an expensive home-heating fuel source. Most of America's oil supply is from foreign markets - as a result, both supply consistency and price may fluctuate.
Advantages - Heating Oil

Remember, oil furnaces aren't as efficient as gas models. The most efficient and newest oil furnace hits the 90% mark with its AFUE ratings. The highly efficient gas furnace units tend to be close to 100%.

Advantages - Gas Heating
• Lower gas cost.
• The furnaces are more efficient.
• The furnaces are low on maintenance and also produce less noise than oil furnaces.
Disadvantages - Gas Heating
• Gas line presence is necessary for natural gas furnace setup.
• As mentioned before, gas furnaces produce less heat than oil for the equivalent fuel amount.
• Gas furnaces don't come cheap.
Conclusion
Make a choice considering the negatives and positives of both the furnace. However, the thing that needs to be noted is the fact that both oil and gas furnaces have become more energy-efficient than they ever were.
